Meet Dr. Chen

Consideration, honesty, and attention to detail - orthodontics requires skill and understanding. Dr. Chen enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with so many unique patients. He works hard to provide orthodontic care in a warm, friendly atmosphere, where all of his patients, young and old, feel comfortable and welcome. Dr. Chen is excited to welcome you and your family to the practice, and working with you as you experience all of the wonderful benefits of orthodontic care.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Dr. Chen completed the International Baccalaureate program at Old Scona Academic High School which is often recognized as one of the best high schools in Canada and one of the top I.B. World Schools. From there he completed his Honours biochemistry degree at the University of Alberta and then received his dental degree from the University of Toronto. Based on his achievements in dental school, Dr. Chen was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, a North American Dental Honors Society. Continuing his migration east, Dr. Chen was accepted into Harvard University where he completed their hospital residency program gaining valuable experience in the treatment and management of medically compromised patients. He was subsequently elevated that following year to the role of attending staff instructor at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Though it was hard to say goodbye to New England, Dr. Chen's passion for orthodontics brought him back to the University of Toronto where he received his Masters of Science degree in Orthodontics.

Dr. ChenOne of Dr. Chen's most rewarding experiences while in his orthodontic program was his dental mission to Venezuela with Kindness in Action. There he had the opportunity to team up with other dental professionals to provide treatment for orphans, homeless and other underprivileged youth.

Upon graduation from orthodontics, Dr. Chen completed a fellowship at the Craniofacial Treatment and Research Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children and soon after was honoured to accept a staff position in the Division of Orthodontics where he provides care for children with cleft lip and palate or craniofacial anomalies.

Dr. Chen's memberships include the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Ontario Association of Orthodontists, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honours Dental Society, the American Cleft Palate – Craniofacial Association and is a Fellow and Examiner of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. As such Dr. Chen devotes many days each year to continuing education seminars, study clubs, and conferences in order to keep up to date on the latest techniques.

Away from the office, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with good friends, family and most importantly with his wife Cindy, his son Aiden and his daughter Chloe. Also as a Vaughan resident in Thornhill, Dr. Chen enjoys volunteering in the community, supporting local teams and sponsoring school scholarships. When time permits, he fits in as much skiing, cycling, ultimate frisbee and travel as he can.
